TO QUALIFY AS A ROOKIE
A driver is considered a rookie in the IndyCar series during a given season if the driver has
1) not participated in more than four races during a single prior IndyCar season, AND
2) has a total of less than eight IndyCar races in their career.
Pietro Fittipaldi will be racing in IndyCar full-time for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in 2024.
While many may consider him a rookie, he in fact appears on my 2018 IndyCar Rookie List where he
raced in 6 races and then raced in 3 more, including the Indy 500, in 2019. So he is technically not an
IndyCar rookie.
WHAT HE HAS BEEN DOING SINCE:
He finished 5th in the 2019 F3 Asian championship.
He has been a reserve driver for the Haas Formula 1 team since 2020.
He competed in two F1 races in 2020 for them.
He has also had some races in sports cars in the LMP2 class.

Kyffin Simpson will be the youngest driver on the 2024 IndyCar grid.
He is a Cayman Islands native and the son of businessman David Simpson who owns Ridgeline
Lubricants. That company has sponsored several Ganassi IndyCars the past two years.
Kyffin was part of the winning LMP2 sports car at the 2023 Twelve Hours of Sebring and was
part of the 2023 European Le Mans Series Overall Championship team

2024 IndyCar Rookie of the Year - Linus Lundqvist
09/02/2024 - Lundqvist, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, wrapped up the title in Milwaukee.
He came in 3rd twice, securing two podiums his rookie year - One was at a road course
and one was at an oval. He led laps at Milwaukee and brought it home 6th. He also won
the pole at Road America.

UPDATE: Siegel began 2024 driving in INDY NXT. He filled in for a couple of IndyCar
teams at Long Beach and Road America.
After impressing Arrow McLaren with his win in the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of Le
Mans, they immediately signed him to a multi-year contract to drive their No. 6 entry.
Not competing in 5 races pretty much left him out of the running for Rookie of the Year.
