ABOUT THE TRACK:
In preparation for the return of the Formula One US Grand Prix in 2000, a road course was
added to the infield of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which used part of the oval track.
Several changes have been made to the course since that time - curves at the north end were
removed to make it faster and extra turns were installed at the south end, brining the cars into
the infield and off of the banked Turn 1.
MotoGP replaced Formula 1 in 2008.
In 2014, the IndyCar Series began racing on the course a few weeks before the Indy 500.
The Indy Lights series has a couple races over the weekend.
In 2020, IndyCar began holding an extra race on the course.
The road course is ~ 2.5 miles long and includes 14 turns. It is raced in a clockwise direction,
unlike the Indy 500.
