Events For '69 Listed
Since the first "500" Festival activities began in Indianapolis in a rather modest way back
in 1957, they have grown annually in size, importance and acceptance. Over the last
several years they have been widel recognized as one of the most noteworthy civic events
to be staged by any city in the land.
Here is the schedule of the wide variety of events to be presented this year under the
sponsorship of the "500" Festival Assocites Inc.:
Monday March 31 - Press Party
Thursday, April 3 - 33 Princesses selected by the 33 directors of the "500" Festival Assoc.
Sunday, April 13 - Court Selection Dinner at the Atkinson Hotel, black tie
Saturday, April 19 - Queen Selection Coronation Dinner at the Murat Temple, black tie
Saturday, May 3 - Festival Breakfast, honoring Mayor RIchard Lugar
Saturday, May 3 - Opening Day of Speedway Track.
Friday, May 9 and Saturday May 10 - Gin Rummy Tournament
Saturday, May 10 through May 24 - "500" Festival of the Arts in Downtown Indianapolis
Saturday, May 17 and Sunday May 18 - First Weekend of Qualificiations
Saturday, May 24 - Balloon Race
