The road course at the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway was built for the 2000 Formula
One U.S. Grand Prix.

IndyCar began racing on the circuit in 2014.
The race is held several weeks before the
Indy 500.

The pandemic of 2020 mixed up the season
for sports all around the world.  One good
thing that came out of it was that a 2nd
IndyCar race is now held on the circuit.

ABOUT THE TRACK:

In preparation for the return of the Formula One US Grand Prix in 2000, a road course was
added to the infield of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which used half of the oval track.

Several changes have been made to the course since that time - some turns at the north end
were removed to make it faster while Turns 1 and 2 were bypassed using new infield track
sections.

MotoGP replaced Formula 1 in 2008.

In 2014, the IndyCar Series began racing on the course a few weeks before the Indy 500.
The Indy Lights series has a couple races over the weekend.

In 2020, IndyCar added a second race and the NASCAR Xfinity series began racing on it.

In 2021, NASCAR Cup's Brickyard 400 was moved from the oval to the road course and
renamed the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard.

The road course is ~ 2.5 miles long and includes 14 turns.
All races are in a clockwise direction - the opposite of the oval track races.
