33 princesses are selected by each
of 33 members of the board of
directors for the "500" Festival.  

The girls must be between the ages
of 19 and 22 and be in college.
They are chosen for their beauty,
poise, charm and intelligence.

Five girls are selected as finalists for
queen.

After the queen is selected, the
other four finalists become her court.
The Thirty-three Princesses
The Pace Car was
the New Ford Mustang
Venice was the theme of the
Governor's coronation ball,
held at the Indiana Roof
ballroom.

1,200 guests attended to dance
and see the queen crowned.

Queen Donna Kay was escorted
by Tom VanArsdale, a 6'5"
basketball player at Indiana
University.
ABOUT QUEEN DONNA

She is a 20 year-old, blonde,
blue-eyed Indiana University
junior from Sellersburg, IN.

A member fo the Junior Class
Council and the Young Women's
Christian Association.  She also
sings with the Indiana Singing
Hoosiers and Queens.

Majoring in elementary education,
She plans to teach 2nd or 3rd
grade.

She is determined not to resign
herself next year to "senior panic"
- the annual last-minute scrabble
for a husband among graduating
collegians.

There were thirty-four lighted floats and
thirty-seven marching bands.

180 military units were reviewed by the
grand marshal - Air Force Lt. General
David A. Burchinal and Major General
John R. Pugh, commander of the Sixth
Army Corps.
