De Silvestro missed the Sonoma IndyCar race in 2011 after being refused entry to
the United States. An agent working for US Customs became concerned over
frequent trips from country to country that de Silvestro had been taking, and when
de Silvestro tried to explain herself, the official refused to believe that a woman was
a professional race car driver!

IndyCar drivers Milka Duno, Sarah Fisher, Lyn St. James and Danica Patrick met Billie Jean King at the 2007 Indianapolis 500.
(Billie Jean King was a top ranked tennis player in the 1960-70s and an advocate for gender equality.)
Feb 3, 2020 -   I visited the IMS Museum where I saw this display set up in honor of Janet Guthrie!
This is the car Guthrie drove to 9th-place in the 1978 Indy 500.
It is a Wildcat Chassis powered by a 161-c.i turbo 4-cyl Drake-Goosse-Sparks engine.
Guthrie had broken her wrist a few days before the race and secretly wore a cast
while effectively driving the entire distance with only one hand!
Feb 19, 2020 - Janet Guthrie, along with Dale Earnhardt, was inducted into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame.
