A Visit To The IMS Hall of Fame Museum August 3, 2013
|
I took my niece and her latest boyfriend to the museum today.
As a big fan of Land Speed Record cars, I was surprised and excited to see the Spirit
of America Sonic 1 on display.
Craig Breedlove drove this car on Nov 15, 1965 at the Bonneville Salt Flats, breaking
600 mph and setting a new world record.
The car is 34' long and is powered by a General Electric J-79 turbojet capable of
producing 15,000 pounds of thrust.
The toys I played with the most as a little kid were my Matchbox, Corgi and Hot Wheel
Redline cars. My favorites where the Indy and Formula cars.
When I got older, I liked highly-detailed, precise models made for collectors.
The museum had collections of both on display, although the toys were before my era.
